One Flew Into the Cukoo’s Nest.

Blimey!

The non-descript polygon of Seb, Wally and Luke took the reigns of the Scenery, original airing 16th of September. There was a change in the air as the Scenery had it’s first ever live in studio guest, Mr Alex Wheaton, the managing editor of Adelaide’s dB Magazine. It was of some coincidence that our second feature was of close proximity of the first as we ventured out into the nightlife of Hindley Street with Scenateer Louis chatting to the chaps from Cuckoo Bar.

dB Magazine has been a free, independant street press magazine in Adelaide for the last twenty years. Along side Rip It Up magazine, it has acted as Adelaide’s guide to live music, and it’s free look into the music world. It stands now upon a cross roads, as do many in the print media, as consumers turn toward the internet for much the same information. Seb, Walter and Luke had a chat with Alex about the history of dB and the state of Adelaide street press.

Hindley Street is a bizarre place. I would love to write an essay right now, and this is about the fifth time I’ve written out this paragraph, but I’m just going to leave it at that. Louis has a quick chat with relatively new tenants Cukoo Bar about the electronic scene, how they differ from the reputation of the street, and what they see for it’s future.

A couple of episodes ago, whilst talking of Mikey Young’s pie fingers, Alex mentioned that he thought Eddy Current Supression Ring would be soon back together because none of the other guys were doing anything. How wrong he was.

I love the incest. I know, not a term one usually hear’s, but the Victorian garage punk scene is rife with it, doing the exact opposite of it’s genetic counterpart with producing something healthy and vibrant. Boomgates is another of its offsprings, featuring members from Dick Diver, Trial Kennedy, Teen Archer, The Twerps and, of course, Brendan from Eddy Current Suppression Ring. This week’s feature track – Layman’s Terms, it will leave you going aww, sort of.

Until next time true beleivers.

Seb, Wally & Luke. (and Alex).
